Migration from VB6 to .net Achieved on Critical Deadline at 45 Percent Less than Planned Cost
Background:
Application software system provider for more than 75 percent of state municipalities that include revenue collection, utility, and assessor software.
Challenge:
Client’s outdated applications were built in VB6. On a tight tax season deadline, client needed to be up to date and able to serve all users. The goal of framework migration was to serve customers faster and more efficiently, meet target deadline for tax reporting season, serve large range of customers, and establish compatibility for all clients.
Before contracting with Bridge Talent, the plan was to utilize an automated system for migration at an estimated project expense of $100 to $125K.
Solution:
Bridge contracted asp.net developers implemented migration of all VB6 applications successfully to the .net framework.
– Tested managed and unmanaged code:
- Transferred, tested, and validated data.
- Assisted and advised client on correct forward approach: staff augmentation, Bridge consultant continuation or other outsourcing solution.
- Project implementation conducted on site for elevated team transparency.
Results:
Preserved Revenue: QDS met critical live deadline, prepared for new year operations.
Improved Product/Asset: Established compatibility and retain at-risk clients. Customer complaints and wait times decreased by over 33 percent upon implementation.
Cost Savings: Client spent 45 percent less than budgeted for purchase of automated migration system.
